Anthony Burgess
Anthony Burgess was born in 1917 in Manchester England, then grew up in Harpurhey and Moss Side. As a young child his mother died of influenza which had a profound effect on his literary. He went to school at the University of Manchester in England. He also served in the medical corps in the Royal army in England. He has traveled all over the world to places such as Malaya, Malta, Monaco, Italy and the US. He is a novelist, poet, playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic. In his career he has written thirty-three novels, twenty-five works of non-fiction, two volumes of autobiography, three symphonies, more than 250 other musical works, and has done a large amount of journalism. He is best known for his book A Clockwork Orange. He died in November 1993 of Cancer.
